Staying motivated through every stage of your career

We in the WBL community have so many incredible female entrepreneurs, many of whom have been running their businesses for a decade or more! When you’ve been in the same industry or profession for many years, it can be difficult to keep the passion alive and your momentum running. Just ask Robin Baker who’s been in the mortgage lending industry for over two decades! Like many of our members, Robin understands that staying engaged with your work and finding ways to generate excitement and curiosity are paramount- not just for success but for your overall wellbeing. She shared some helpful tips with us that we can’t wait to share with you as well.

1. Embrace the Changes and Innovations in your Industry

Whether you’ve been in your industry for 30 years or 3 months you can bet that your industry has experienced shifts in business practices, technology, and even in the products or services themselves. With each shift you experience these will present new challenges and encourage you to find creative ways to adapt and grow with your industry. Instead of remaining stagnant, embrace these new changes and find ways to incorporate them into your business. This will not only keep you relevant and competitive in your industry but also generate more excitement and enthusiasm for what may have started to feel a little stale.

2. Get Curious About your Clients

Every client you have, whether you’re a coach or a baker, had their own unique story and a unique set of needs. While you may not have time to do a deep dive into EVERY single person who walks through your door, take some time to get curious about their experience. What brought them to you? Why are they seeking your services? What else do they enjoy? As you dive into your client’s background you may learn valuable information that might just spark new ideas and renewed passion for your craft.

3. Find Inspiration in the Challenges

Let’s face it, challenges often come when we’re not looking for them (are we ever really looking for them?), but we can look at them in one of two ways- a roadblock, or a chance for innovation. Unexpected challenges can often mean we have to think outside the box, learn new skills, or change our general mindset. Not easy things to do but often very rewarding things to do. In looking at these challenges as a source of inspiration we can create growth opportunities for ourselves and become even more skilled and talented in the process. More often than not, this becomes an incredible motivator and keeps that passion alive.

4. Start your Morning with a Kickstart

If feeling unmotivated or stuck has become your daily routine maybe you need to start your day like Robin Baker with a Kickstarter Call! Designed to invigorate you, motivate you and get your going, this can be a space to brainstorm ideas, share challenges, and reignite creativity either with your employees or with other industry professionals you respect. It’s a great way to build some momentum for the day as well as help you gain insight or find solutions to problems you just couldn’t otherwise table on your own.

5. Recharge Through Networking

It’s no surprise at WBL that we highly support networking in any industry! Sometimes that little spark you need can only be rekindled through connecting with others. Whether you’re in a WBL chapter, attending a WBL event, or just grabbing coffee with some coworkers, these conversations and connections can inspire fresh ideas, help you solve challenges you may be facing (and happily embracing) and build relationships that can support you when you’re feeling depleted. All of these can help to keep your momentum game strong!

Just because you’ve been in an industry for a long time doesn’t mean you have to give in to the doldrums. By embracing challenges, staying curious, and seeking connection you can create excitement and momentum no matter how long you’ve been in your line of work.

Remember, your business journey isn’t about reaching a destination- it’s about enjoying the process. So stay curious, stay inspired, and keep your passion alive. You, and all those around you, will benefit!
